The ins and outs

We offer a free consultation to those that are eligible. Please go through this before booking a call so that your expectations are in line with ours.

Am I eligible?

You are eligible for a free consultation if:

  • You are now charged with a misdemeanor or felony crime;

  • The case is in Adams, Franklin, Cumberland, or York County;

  • You want and can afford to hire a lawyer for representation; and

  • You book the free consultation right here (and not on the phone).

For your information, we charge flat fees. Our minimum (not max) fees are $1500 for summaries, $3000 for misdemeanors, and $4500 for felonies.

If you can't afford to hire us or another lawyer, please consider applying for a public defender.

Do you get a discount?

If you have a free consultation, you are eligible for a 5% discount as long as:

  • You book an intake call above, using our scheduling app;

  • You did not talk to us before booking the call; and

  • You hire us during or at the end of the consultation.

But if you have a free consultation, you are no longer eligible for the 10% discount available through our online store.

We do it this way because of efficiency. The most efficient process for us is if you hire us online first. If you book a call above, that is still more efficient for us than you calling in, but not as efficient as hiring us online.

We try and pass the savings to us along to you. Make sense?

What is the point?

The primary purpose of the free consultation is to see if you and Steve Rice Law are a good fit, and to provide a quote, not to give out free advice.

If you want to hire a lawyer, we believe we have a lot to offer. We want to talk to you. We want to interview for the job—as long as there is a job opening.

If all you want to do is get legal advise, get a second opinion, see if you need a lawyer, or get help doing it yourself—we are happy to help.

But we charge a fee for that service. Please get a formal consultation, available through our online store.

If you want to hire us, but only if it’s “worth” it (i.e., we tell you want you want to hear), we are not interested. Please call someone else.

We will not waste your time if you do not waste ours. We will be fair with you if you are fair with us.

Here are some other details about our free consultations:

  • The consultation is done on the phone and lasts about 15 minutes.

  • The consultation is 100% free. There is no cost or obligation to you.

  • The consultation is 100% confidential. Even if you do not hire us, we will not tell anyone about what you said.

  • The consultation is with a lawyer. But we normally have a legal assistant do an intake first.

  • The consultation is normally done when the lawyer is on a break or during a block of time. It is not a scheduled appointment. If you need a set time, please get a formal consultation.
